Students Vie for Top Prize in E-Commerce Tilt Finals
The battlefield has been narrowed down. From an original applicant list spanning Baguio to Davao, the student teams vying for the top prize of the 1st Entrepreneurial E-commerce Excellence (E3) Awards is now down to the finalists.
The E3 Awards is co-presented by Mozcom and Unionbank. It is an e-commerce advocacy campaign open to all duly enrolled college or post-graduate students from reputable schools. Contestants were asked to submit E-business ideas - any business project that would require an online payment or transaction component; and implement it using commercial or open source platforms. Projects that made it through the finals include an online agricultural portal, regional food online stores, an online karaoke system, and online fashion stores.
“These initial results are very encouraging. The young kids are really wonderful in their initiatives and creativeness. They just need some guidance which the more experienced among us, professionals, should provide and encourage them further to be technopreneurs,” said Mr. Hermie Pugeda, Unionbank Executive VP for Corporate Product Banking. “It is nice to note also that there is a wide geographic participation even reaching Cebu and Baguio based schools,” he added.
“This is the first time that we had this competition, and we are very excited to know that there are a lot of students out there who are looking at going into e-commerce,” said Mr. Dick Chiang, Mozcom COO/CTO.
